Goodbye, Dusty. Thoughts from Chicago
The Lon is right. I do have a lame excuse for not posting my NFL picks. I was in Chicago and did not have access to a computer. Also, I am kinda lazy, so I didn't do it before I left.
Why was I in Chicago? Well, it was a friend's 30th B-day and, I hoped, the last chance to see Dusty Baker manage my beloved Chicago Cubs. I was a little bit wrong, b/c I went to Sat.'s game, I only saw Dusty's second to last game managing the Cubs. Oh well. The important thing is that he is gone, and just for fun Andy McPhail resigned as well. I really think this is the start of something big. Wait 'till next year!
The game itself was fun. The Cubs got down early 8-0, rallied to tie it in the 9th at 9-9, and then the rain came. We waited for awhile, but beer and food beckoned, so it was out the door and on to The Full Shilling. This was the 2nd time I had sat in the bleachers for a Cubs game, and it was a blast. The scoreboard, while charming on TV, looks like hell up close. And I have to admit, I did walk up behind the scoreboard to catch some of the Notre Dame/Purdue game after the Cubs fell behind early. All in all, the trip was a blast.
While in Chicago, I saw a street vendor selling a t-shirt that read "Green Gay Fudge Packers" You have to love that subtle humor. Anyway, b/c The Lon is one of my friends, I support Gay rights. I dream one day to attend his big, gay, Irish wedding. So, I am picking the Green Gay Fudge Packers to cover the 11 1/2 point spread. Why the hell not?
And now, The Kid has to fax his resume to the Tribune Co.

C'mon! That isn't subtle or funny, it's totally offensive. My partner and I saw a guy selling them on the street and were completely offended and shocked that that kind of thinking (gay=insult) is acceptable enough that someone can display it on a street corner day after day. You support gay rights? How about the right to walk down the street and not be made to feel like a second-class citizen and the butt of a joke?
