A-Rod and Jeter
The Kid here. In case you weren't aware, the baseball playoffs are currently going on and the New York Yankees feature two players named Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez. The first player is sometimes known simply as "JETER!" (Yes, the exclamation point is necessary) and the second as "A-Hole!"....or you know "A-Rod", but if you are a Yankee fan I am sure you have a number of other names for him.
Well, I am not really a fan of either, and like most non-Yankee fans I get a little tired of constantly hearing about them (Thank God they aren't playing the Red Sox) and specifically how great JETER! is or what a choke job A-Rod is. But, sometimes.....you know....you gotta call a spade a spade.
My Sports Writing class turned on Game 2 for the last five minutes of class, and a situation developed in the first inning where the Yankees had the bases loaded and two outs. A-Rod approached the plate and every single kid in my class, me included, knew he was going to get out. What was nice is that the crowd at Yankee Stadium was up on their feet and cheering. It was sweet, because they hate this guy and knew, even more than I did, that A-Rod was going to get out. The only question was how. After the Justin Verlander blew the first pitch by him, I declared "Stike out, looking". I was correct. And those same fans that were standing to cheer were still standing. Except now they were booing. And it is hard to blame them. Because, as we all know, JETER! would have hit a special kind of grand slam (let's call it the JETER! slam) that would have counted for 8 runs.
In case you couldn't tell, I will be rooting for the Tigers.
