Do You Know This Man?

The Kid here. This is what we call a not very productive day at work. Anyway, I am going to do The Lon a favor. If The Lon was on here, talking about the NY Jets and their new head coach Eric Mangini, it would simply smack of "homerism". It is like me talking about UK, I have absolutely no objectivity. The coach I hate today may be the one I want fired tomorrow. (Don't even get me started on Rajon Rondo. I still don't know how I feel about him. It was like having a girlfriend that you, and everyone else, knew was hot, but she only rarely had sex with you. So you had to put up with a bunch of crap for those moments that were wonderful and mind-blowing and.....sorry about this. Back to the Jets)

So I am going to step in and tell you that the Jets are a much better football team than anyone thought. In fact, the Jets and the Dolphins seem to have exchanged preseason scripts. Both teams have a QB returning from injury and a former Belichick assistant as a coach. Preseason, people thought the 'Fins were a potential Super Bowl team (Full disclosure- The Lon thought the 'Fins would be great or horrible. He was right about the horrible part) and The Jets were supposed to start selling Brady Quinn jerseys before November. Now, it appears Jason Whitlock was right when he predicted Joey Harrington would beat out Culpepper in Miami.

But enough about Miami, this is supposed to be about the Jets. I am one of those who thought the Jets would be TERRIBLE, Chad Pennington would look like 12 year old girl at QB (a 12 year old girl with a weak arm), and that Eric Mangini would be the Belichick assistant that was one too far on the"Good NFL Head Coach" list. Instead, the Jets are a good team, Pennington has proven to be the Chad of old and Mangini has proven to be a good head coach.

They are just 2-2 right now, but those losses came against the Colts and the Pats. The Colts are probably the best team in the AFC (I thought it was the Bengals, but not after yesterday) and despite the predictions of doom about the Pats, they are still a very good team, capable of beating the great teams, likes, say the Bengals. Neither of those losses were blowouts and if you are the Jets or a Jets fan, you have to be happy about that. Even the "Go for it" decision made by Mangini late in the Colts game was great. That is the kind of stuff you want to see from your head coach! He was going for the win! He was going for the kill shot! It was.....Awesome.

So, thus far into the NFL season, the Jets, I believe, are the biggest surprise. They are good, and now The Lon doesn't have to wear his gear in shame. Not that he ever would. He is loud and proud. And he likes the Jets.
